Folding aces is one of the hardest things to do in poker. It is also one of the biggest lessons in discipline and skillful play that a player can learn when learning to play poker. While pocket aces is the best starting hand in poker, it is not undefeatable by any means. A problem that many players run into is the fact that because it is the best hand, they think that it should remain the best hand.
Unfortunately, pocket aces is just one pair. While it is the best pair, there are many situations where your aces can be beaten and being able to recognize that your aces are no good and being able to fold them is important. It is extremely important to play aces aggressively preflop to make sure that you push out as many marginal hands that could hit on the flop as possible. If you feel like your aces are beat, they probably are, and folding them is the right play.
